It’s been awhile since we have had a good rocking song on the site so how about some Joe Walsh from back in 1970 when he played with the band James Gang. Funk 49 gives us almost 4 minutes of that good old rock and roll and at no point lets us down. It came crashing down to us fast and furious on radio stations right after their second album James Gang Rides Again was released.
James Gang started out around 1966 as a 5 piece band from Cleveland, Ohio and went through some modifications until 1969. At this point they became a three piece band. Per Wikipedia they were about to do a show when the fourth member of the band decided that he didn’t want to play so the three guys left Walsh. bass player Dale Peters and drummer Jim Fox went out and did the show. They enjoyed their sound so much that night that they decided to stay a trio. So off of their second record as a trio I bring you Funk 49.
Love that tune! Joe Walsh simply is a kick-ass guitarist. He brought some great rock edge to the Eagles. I don’t think the “Hotel California” album would have been the same without him.

Joe did give the Eagles a push forward after he joined that’s for sure. When ever you see him doing something live it looks like he is having fun, never a dull moment type of person

A good one and a CB fave. How couldn’t it be? You beat me to the punch. Listening to it right now and digging it as usual. Joe made some good music back then.

Thought you would like it CB. Sorry to have beaten you to the punch but the Eagles are doing a big show out here and the ads have been all over TV and out of the blue this one pops into the head instead of any Eagles tune. I’m a bigger fan of Joe’s work without the Eagles then with them I guess.

Funny I never associate Joe with the Eagles. Never caught their train. Liked his James Gang and solo stuff. I’m with you on that one.

Great tune. I learned how to play the intro on guitar. Just fun to play.

That intro sure sets the song up well and I’m sure when you turn up your volume anybody near you raises their head when you play the intro.

Love this song! I remember first hearing it when I was a DJ at my university’s radio station.
