Lead Belly
This week we were going to do a song post but at the last minute we decided to do a simple “Thank You” to the great folk singer Lead Belly. The first line of this article from the UK’s Telegraph says all that we need to know about the influence that Lead Belly had on rock and roll. The list of artists that have recorded his music happens to be a who’s who of the music industry. Just a small sampling of people who have recorded his music includes Led Zeppelin (Gallows Pole), The Animals (House of the Rising Sun), Ram Jam (Black Betty), Rory Gallagher (Out on the Western Plains), The White Strips with Boll Weevil and Nirvana’s unplugged performance of “Where Did You Sleep Last Night”. The list also includes artists like artists like Johnny Cash, Grateful Dead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Morrison.
