Uriah Heep “The Wizard”

Uriah Heep "Demons and Wizards"

“Demons and Wizards”

“The Wizard”

Uriah Heep has been putting out great hard rock music since 1969, but since this blog is all about forgotten classics we will fall back to the year 1972 and the record that might have had the best commercial success for the band in America: Demons and Wizards.

The Wizard was written by then keyboard player Ken Hensley and the short lived bass player Mark Clarke who was literately in the band for a few months.

Uriah Heep is known as a hard rock group but this 2 minute 59 second song does not display that style. It is a semi-acoustic ballad that displays beautiful harmony and a kick ass melody. While listening you allow yourself to close your eyes and in-vision you and your favorite wizard, Gandalf, Merlin or any from the book series Harry Potter it doesn’t matter.

“He was the wizard
Of a thousand kings
And I chanced to meet him
One night wandering
He told me tales
And he drank my wine
Me and my magic man
Kinda feeling fine”
